End of Life Ceremony

  • Life cycle.

A Celebrant, supports and guides family and friends in a time of deep love and grief. How we mark death is as unique and personal as how we live life. Working with the dying and their loved ones is a calling for me. A privilege to tell a person’s story and how they touched and cherished others.

  • Of service.

It’s your choice how you pay tribute to death, just as for life.

At present, family commitments make me unavailable at short notice. I can help you tell the stories with a loved one while alive at a living funeral or later at a memorial or suggest other celebrants.

  • Death in Aotearoa.

Having a funeral director or celebrant is not a legal requirement. Anyone can lead a funeral. Connecting with professionals to walk beside eases the burden for many. A celebrant leading the ceremony can help to weave together the wishes of the living and dead.

“Working alongside Emma on my End of Life ceremony was such a beautiful, thoughtful and respectful process.

I found it challenging trying to put into words my whole life story that captured the essence of me without being too over the top but also not missing the important bits. With Emma's natural skill for listening, storytelling & wordsmithing she beautifully wrote my story into a ceremony that I will be happy to leave behind.

I never knew this could be such a profound experience. To actually be a part of planning a celebration that would be thrown on my leaving this world. Stories that were important to me, by the people who are important to me - but most importantly creating a ceremony that reflected who I am. I wish we would all take the fear out of this process by embracing the process - it was truly beautiful.”

  • The Window

Your body is away from me
But there is a window open
    From my heart to yours
From this window, like the moon
    I keep sending news secretly
